Twenty years ago, I was a law student at the University of Wollongong about to enter the legal profession when the Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG came to speak. He was incredible.
As a Dean’s Merit Listed student later that evening I had the privilege of being seated next to him at dinner which was an incredibly insightful, memorable and impactful experience.
Last night, I found myself sitting beside him again, and hearing him say, “Keep up the incredible contribution you’re making to the legal industry.”
You don’t hear words like that every day from someone who has contributed as much to the legal industry as the Honorable Michael Kirby AC CMG.
Our conversation was about the journey since those university days, the legal profession, and the work I now do through The Lawyers’ Mind CPD Courses and Retreats, developed specifically for the legal profession.
He reflected on his many years in the legal profession, his experiences, his observations of the profession, the culture and its people and the changes he has witnessed throughout his career.
I’m very grateful for our conversations, his generosity and encouragement of my contribution to the legal profession then and now.
